⭐️ Hamilton! ⭐️
You may or may not have heard of the award-winning musical Hamilton, but if you have not, I will give you a summary.
You see, it is one of my very favorite things, and so I probably talk about it alot.
Basically, Lin-Manuel Miranda was inspired by a book about Alexander Hamilton, 1st treasurer of the United States. He created a musical about it, and then it took the world by storm in 2015. It came out on Disney+ July 3rd, 2020.
Hamilton is the story of Alexander Hamilton, who grew up in a poor, impoverished island in the Caribbean. His town is destroyed in a hurricane, and at age 17 he wrote a refrain to express his loneliness. The people around him were like, “Whoah, this kid is smart,” and they took up a collection to send him to New York. He gets there and starts making friends and creating a stir. He gets recruited to the army and eventually becomes a general, leading the armies of the Revolution to victory in many battles including the legendary Battle of Yorktown. He marries Eliza Schuyler and they have 8 kids. He settles down to live peacefully and goes on vacations to a lake in a nearby park.
Just kidding! He will never be satisfied!
He writes feverishly, thousands of thousands of pages, he works non-stop, comes up with financial systems. He leads the country, and whether it is a good or bad direction doesn’t matter. The thing that matters is that he is working so hard to rise up instead of being a simple island boy. Unfortunately, because of his work, he starts to make some enemies. Including his own wife, when he cheats on her then publishes a pamphlet about it to protect his legacy. Another enemy he makes is Aaron Burr, who eventually kills Hamilton in a duel. They sing a song about “Who lives, who dies, who tells your story”, and everyone cries.
The end.
It’s an amazing story. There are some moving statements about legacy and honor.
Also, there’s some epic music, which is a nice bonus. In fact, I’m listening to it while writing this post. So, if you’ve heard it and like it, yay, me too. If you’ve never heard of it before, you should listen to it. Enjoy!
